A DEER was rescued by firefighters after she became trapped in railings in Crawshawbooth.

The RSPCA called the fire service around 2pm on Wednesday.

Crews from Rawtenstall used a special tool to prise open the metal bars near Crawshaw Grange, Burnley Road.

Ray Godwin, who witnessed the rescue, said: “The RSPCA had placed a towel over the animal’s head to reduce stress.

“The firemen used a power tool to bend the bars apart and the doe was freed.

“It had sustained nasty wounds on either flank, but the RSPCA said that wild animals generally heal well.

“The deer fled quickly into the woods and the fire service bent the bars back.”
