LANCASHIRE residents have given police 'strong leads' for 20 cases featured on this week's BBC1’s Crimewatch Roadshow.

The show has been based in the county all this week.

After today’s final show was broadcast from the county, presenter Ginny Buckley said they’d had a ‘brilliant response’ from the public.

She said: “It’s still quite early days, but 20 of the cases we featured this week, including many from Lancashire, have generated really strong leads for the police and they are expecting to make further arrests.

“Three people have handed themselves into police as a direct result of being featured on the programme.

"Two were wanted for questioning over a serious assault and the third is now back in Preston Prison after breaching the terms of his licence.”

Amongst the tip-offs coming in from viewers were sightings of fugitive Andrew Moran, who vaulted the dock at Burnley Crown Court last March.

The 25-year-old was standing trial accused of a £25,000 armed robbery on a security van at Asda, Colne, in 2005 and has been declared one of Britain’s most wanted men.

Calls into the BBC show claimed to have seen Moran - who was convicted in his absence - in Nelson, abroad in Spain and also on the M62 near his home-town of Salford.

Deer poaching in Darwen and the Ribble Valley as well as badger baiting were also highlighted.

Ginny Buckley added: “We’ve got some names from the badger baiting footage and some positive identifications on the people involved.

"They’re the lowest of the low."

Friday’s show highlighted Blackburn’s South West Neighbourhood Policing Team during recent Beatsweep operations in Mill Hill and Thursday’s broadcast included a ‘frank’ interview with Chief Constable Steve Finnigan.
