A TERRIFIED 18-year-old has told how he feared for his life when two thugs attacked him with a plank of wood and kicked him in the head while he lay on the ground.

Daniel Bevan believes the men had been on a drink and drug fuelled binge when they targeted him while walking in the street with his girlfriend.

He suffered head injuries, a broken elbow, muscle damage to his shoulder and back, and a bone was dislodged in his right wrist.

Now the teenager is appealing for the Good Samaritan who pulled up and helped him to come forward so he can say thank you.

Mr Bevan, from Deane, was with his 16-year-old girlfriend in Topp Way, Bolton, at around 2.30pm on Sunday when the men targeted him.

The teenager, who believes he knew his attackers, threw himself on the floor and curled up in ball to try to protect himself against the blows that started raining down on him, as they kicked, punched and repeatedly hit him with a plank of wood.

He said: “I was terrified. It was awful. I feared for my life. I think they’d been on a bender of drink and drugs and when someone like that starts hitting you in the head it’s not happy days.”

Mr Bevan said his girlfriend was scared to death by what was happening.

He thinks the attack lasted for about a minute before the men stopped. He got up and started hobbling towards Bath Street.

Mr Bevan thinks that the men were about to attack him again, but then a Good Samaritan pulled up and told him to get in his car and took him to hospital.

“He was really nice. Loads of people drove past because it was the middle of the day but he was the only person who stopped. I want to thank him.

“He did me a big favour because they were still hanging around and could have come back,” said Mr Bevan.

Det Con Stuart Round, of Bolton CID, said: “It is believed the teenager has had problems with his attackers in the past, so I want to assure people, who maybe concerned, that we are treating this as an isolated incident and there is no reason for people to be unduly alarmed.

“However, he suffered nasty injuries as a result of this unprovoked and senseless assault and his attackers belong behind bars.”

Police have also appealed for the Good Samaritan and any other witnesses to come forward.

Two men, aged 21 and 20, have been arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed until July 19, pending further inquiries.
