A MASS fuel protest involving hundreds of bikers passed off without incident.
About 400 motorcycles and 25 cars took part in the go-slow in Greater Manchester on Saturday morning to demonstrate against the record price of petrol.
The protesters kept to the agreed route and police praised them for their conduct. Bikers set off at 9am from Hartshead Moor Services on the M62 in West Yorkshire and headed for Manchester on the M62, on to the M60 and then on to the M602 towards the city centre.
A police spokesman said: “While it did cause some traffic disruption, which was to be expected, the careful planning meant disruption was minimised.
Demonstrators hoped the May 1st “May-Hem” protest on roads and motorways around Manchester would be the biggest ever held.
Protests in the last two years have seen hundreds of bikers take over sections of motorways.
