THE sentencing of a 17-year-old boy who killed Blackburn man Adam Rogers has been adjourned for a second time.

William Kingsley Upton, of Ulverston Drive, Rishton, was due to be dealt with this morning for the manslaughter of the 24-year-old, from Dukes Brow.

Upton claimed to have been acting in self-defence when he threw a single punch at Mr Rogers in Blackburn town centre last July.

But he was convicted in January by a jury who heard that Mr Rogers had been acting as a 'peacemaker', trying to usher Upton away from a fight.

Judge Stuart Baker, who presided over the trial, was taken ill on Wednesday and the sentencing was adjourned until Thursday, April 22.

Members of both families had once again arrived at Preston Crown Court for the hearing and the recorder of Preston, Judge Anthony Russell QC, expressed his ‘deep regret’.

Last month, the original sentencing was adjourned after legal arguments over a pre-sentence report which labelled Upton 'dangerous'.

The author of the report from the Youth Offending Team had gone away on holiday and wasn't able to attend court.
