£100K cannabis haul seized by Burnley police

HAUL: A police officer with some of the massive amount of cannabis discovered HAUL: A police officer with some of the massive amount of cannabis discovered

CANNABIS worth more than £100,000 has been seized following a police raid at a house in Burnley.

Officers executed the search warrant at the terraced house in Burdett Street, in the Trinity area, at around 4.30pm yesterday.

Inside they found what they described as a ‘sophisticated’ set-up, including 300 plants and around £100,000 worth of dried cannabis.

The seizure came after the arrest of a man in Cheshire, who was found with one kilo of cannabis bush and documents relating to the Burnley property.

He was stopped by officers as he travelled on the southbound stretch of the M6, near Sandbach, on suspicion of motoring offences, at 4am on Tuesday.

Cheshire police alerted Burnley officers to the address given on the documents.

Officers had to force entry to the property where they found cannabis plants being farmed and some of the drug dried out, ready to be sold.

PC John Fisher, community beat manager for the area, said they spent around six hours dismantling the farm.

United Utilities said the electrical system used as part of the set-up was potentially lethal and could have endangered lives.

PC Fisher said: “The cannabis seized was ready to go on to the streets of Burnley - the set up was very sophisticated and organised.

“The dangers of cannabis both in itself and as a gateway drug are well documented and we are delighted to have removed such a large quantity from the streets of Burnley. We are committed to tackling both organised crime and drugs supply."

When officers executed the search warrant they said a man, possibly of Vietnamese origin, fled from the premises. He was last seen heading towards the railway tracks between Gannow and Rosegrove.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the man should call Burnley Police on 01282 425001 or Crimsetoppers on 0800 555111.

Following the incident in Cheshire and raid at the property, a 28 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences and released on police bail.

Well done once again the Burnley Police!
Around this area used to be and probably still is flooded with illegal drugs. Again, well done the Burnley Police!

It's interesting to note that with a lot of these cannabis farms, there seems to be a mention of Vietnamese men. Have they progressed from running takeaways?

Good work. Now onto catching those who peddle drugs that cause serious misery, harm and have a significant element of crime involved to fund the habits.

Here's a little clue to help the police - young men driving 60k vehicles around Burnley and Pendle, whilst having no visible means of support and residing in two up two down terraced houses. Off you go Sherlock and try to piece together the clues. Though knowing Lancs Constabulary, they will set up a vehicle check point after giving everyone a weeks notice they are going to do so, then slapping each other on the back because they caught Mrs Miggings without her seatbelt on.

What the clever dealers are failing to do is to get cannabis baby sitters who are not vietnamese. lets hope these desparate immigrants lead the police to catch the main culprits and rid our towns of scum and their luxurios lives they are living

Marcus, if you read the LT you will know that in the last 2 yrs, countless drugdealers have been brought to justice. Sounds so simple to do looking at how you put it. BUT, bureaucratic red tape makes it almost impossible. Ever heard of "RIPA", "Supt authorisations" "trade insurance policies" etc etc. If you can make the difference Marcus then get off your critical behind and put on a uniform. Prepared to be frustrated. I wont hold my breath..........

Oh yeah Marcus. A magistrate will never authorise a search warrant on your evidence. You just fell at the first hurdle. Try again!

Firstly, I bailed out of the area many years ago, as I could see the direction it was headed. My foresight was not misplaced. Secondly, I would not be prepared to sacrifice my career and take a substantial pay cut to join the Police. Cut it up whichever way you choose, the kind of cars being driven around Burnley and Pendle require substantial financial input to purchase/lease, insure and keep on the road. When these cars are driven by people with no visible (legal) means of support, then alarm bells start to ring.

And finally, it appears I mistakenly thought that the job of the Police was to investigate, piece together evidence and present to magistrates to authorise a search warrant?
