Puzzled firefighters searched the Low Moor area on Saturday night for a fire after receiving reports of smoke.
However after checking the entire area they realised the smoke callers had seen was just that from the dozens of barbecues that were being held in the sunshine.
A fire spokesman said: "The calls were genuine. But we soon realised that it was just from the number of people who had used the hot weather as an excuse to have a barbecue."
