SHE'S wowed audiences at the Bank Holiday blues festivals and now Kyla Brox is to headline her own show at Colne Muni on May 12.

Kyla has been singing live since she was 12 when she sang with her father's band, The Victor Brox Blues Band.

Since then she has gone on to form her own band, recorded three albums and performed all over the world.

"We're really looking forward to playing the Muni next week," said Kyla.

"We've always got a really good reception when we've played the festivals, maybe because there aren't that many females on the scene."

But if you think that blues isn't your scene then Kyla and her band may well change your mind.

"We're certainly not a traditional blues sound," she said.

"We are a bit more soulful and quite funky for a rhythm and blues outfit.

"We all like to entertain and put on a show and we are not trapped in the blues.

"We may have all grown up around the blues but we do enjoy other sorts of music and this has helped us create a much more contemporary sound."

As well as fronting the band "I just love performing" Kyla also plays the flute on some numbers.

"I started playing it as a kid," she said.

Friday's gig sees Kyla and her band sharing the stage with Giles, the brainchild of Dutch songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mark Keohorst.

"At the moment the gig is a one-off," said Kyla.

"We met at a festival in France and thought it would be good to gig together and we've got the chance to do that in Colne."

Kyla is in the process of writing songs for a new album and has just finished recording a live album which will be released in the next few weeks.
