A SUSPECTED cann-abis factory has been uncovered by police in Burnley.

Officers went to the house in Elgin Crescent, off Cog Lane, at about 7pm on Tuesday following a 999 call in which the caller hung up.

However police traced the call and during a search of the house discovered what they believe were 52 cannabis plants and hydroponic growing equipment in an upstairs room.

A 25-year-old, Andrew Ratcliffe, was arrested and charged with cultivation of cannabis. He is due to appear before magistrates tomorrow.

Insp Damian Darcy, of Burnley police, said: "A call was received by police and officers attended the address. When they went in to the property and looked upstairs the cannabis plants and associated equipment were discovered."

It was the latest alleged cannabis factory discovered in East Lancashire.

Last month police discovered a cannabis factory at a Blackburn mill which officers believe was gearing up to supply this summer's football World Cup.

Six other homes in Hyndburn were raided where police made seven arrests for cannabis and cocaine offences and for the supply of counterfeit currency.

And in March police recovered what is believed to be the biggest ever seizure of cannabis in Lancashire at a house in Burnley.

Drugs suspected of being cannabis with a street value of £180,000 as well as hundreds of tablets, believed to be ecstasy and LSD, were found at the empty house in Hilary Street, in the Barden Lane area.
