A SCHEME has been launched to get people in Colne involved in gardening.

The Wildlife Trust has started an allotment project in Basil Street, near the bottom of Colne Lane, and it now wants people of all ages to roll up their sleeves and join in.

Training will be led by experienced gardener Mark Fisher, and the group is holding its next meeting between 1pm and 3pm on Tuesday.

Emma Cosgrif, project officer, said: "These allotments have lain derelict, overgrown and dangerous for many years, "So far, weeds, rubbish, asbestos, a derelict caravan and discarded needles have all been removed and been replaced with renovated areas for growing, a patio, wildlife hedge, wildflower meadow and a fantastic new retaining wall and ramp to link the two plots together for the first time."
