A MAN drove his car over the drinks limit after he "got jumped" Burnley magistrates were told.
Shaheen Ali, 28, of Hibson Road, Nelson, was stopped by police after they saw him speeding and veering across the opposite lane inn the early hours of April 29, the court heard.
Ali was later tested and results revealed 52 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 mililitres of breath the legal limit is 35.
Ali admitted driving with excess alcohol and was fined £200, banned for 12 months and must pay £50 costs.
John Rusius, defending, said when Ali went out for a drink he would take his car, leave it and get a taxi home.
He was attacked by a group of men, at least one had a weapon and he got in his car and drove off, Mr Rusius added.
Mr Rusius said the Ail's tracksuit had been covered in blood and there was blood on his car seat. He was seen by paramedics at the police station. Ali told the bench: "I got jumped. Thats why I got into my car."
