PLANS are under way to hold a festival in the name of a former Darwen community fundraiser.

It is hoped the event in memory of Lillian Scott will take place at venues across the Sudell area of town next spring.

But the finer details are still to be decided upon by the organisers, from the council's community services.

Lillian died nearly five years ago at the age of 71 after a heart attack.

The same year, she was named one of Blackburn with Darwen's outstanding women of the 20th century for her work within the community.

Even after her death she continued to help others, with all donations from her funeral going into an account for a youth cafe, set up by her to provide internet access and advice aimed at young people.

Lillian was involved in many local fundraising events and the youth cafe in Darwen, which was her last project, was taken over by her son Peter.

The festival is expected to take place between May 27 and June 6.

Anyone wanting to make donations to the festival, or volunteer for, or participate in, any of the events should contact the event co-ordinator on 01254 760270 or email lsfestival@yahoo.co.uk.

More details about the event and how to obtain tickets will be advertised on the notice board at Sudellside Community Centre nearer the time.
