I am writing regarding the letter from a reader in the Citizen (October 6) which says: "It is a waste of time meeting at Mainway Court".
Although I understand the readers' apathy, it is this attitude that helps to maintain the status quo.
I may be naive but we don't live in a totalitarian regime and we have the freedom of speech and the right to be heard.
New Progress have listened and are considering their options. I am hopeful they will be able to leave the scheme managers on site.
Numerous letters, a petition containing 800 signatures, a meeting with the chief executive, media coverage has to count for something.
If we all took the attitude that our voice doesn't count I, as woman, would not be able to vote and write this letter.
The chief executive of New Progress is a woman, a position that would have not been possible if people hadn't be prepared to fight for equality.
Employers would be able to discriminate on disability, sexuality, age etc; if there was no legislation. Please join the campaign you have a right as a free individual to be heard.
