IWAS extremely distressed to read that the Lancashire Education Authority has refused to give a grant to Sophie Molloy to study to become a professional ballet dancer (LET, October 30).
The sad fact is that, due to the lack of grants, British ballet companies are now having to look elsewhere in the world to find properly trained dancers.
Most well-trained dancers graduating from Council for Dance Education and Training recognised vocational schools have no difficulty in finding work.
I would have thought, therefore, that helping a talented young person to train for a career where there are vacancies would have met with the approval of your local authority.
I do hope after your excellent editorial that the authorities will reconsider and help this young lady and others in a similar situation.
