AWF Warehousing and International Distribution staged a corporate sports day, which included archery and clay-pigeon shooting, at the Mytton Fold Farm hotel to unveil its plans, including the doubling of warehousing facilities at its Darwen site.

A new computer software programme has also been installed, a company-wide training programme introduced and the firm is to add articulated lorries to its fleet.

"We recognised that in order to compete effectively, we needed to expand the services we were offering," said Andrew Carney, general manager.

"The mid 90s return in business confidence has shown companies expanding nationally and internationally, and we saw a great potential for us to grow."
