COUN Gail Barton (Letters, November 13) states that Blackburn has a town centre which is among the best in the North West and, when finished, will be the best. Does her eyesight need checking?
The town centre is an eyesore. Ainsworth Street resembles a Grand Prix circuit with buses vying with each other to see who can kill the first pensioner, while the Boulevard is standing semi-derelict.
The fruit and vegetable market is in decline, while cheap jean stalls are breeding faster than a pack of rats.
There is rubbish everywhere and the council decide that, to attract more custom, they will charge people for parking on every bit of derelict land they can.
Even O J Simpson's defence lawyers couldn't convince me that we have a good town centre.
R J KNOWLES (Mr), Peel Mount, Blackburn.
