Mike Joyce, Tim Burgess, John Cooper Clarke, The Whip, I Am Kloot, Johnny Brown and more make music history and re-interpret The Buzzcock’s pioneering ‘Spiral Scratch’

Band On The Wall, Manchester, May 27

Jack Daniel’s will be making music history in Manchester when Manc legends Mike Joyce (ex-Smiths drummer), Johnny Brown (Twisted Wheel) and Tim Burgess (The Charlatans) as well as ‘Punk Poet Extraordinaire’ John Cooper Clarke team up with The Whip, I Am Kloot, The Answering Machine and Dutch Uncles for an incredible JD Set that promises to deliver an unforgettable reworking of Buzzcocks’ punk classic ‘Spiral Scratch’. The artists will master their collaborations during a week of intensive studio sessions to create new versions of tracks such as ‘Boredom’, ‘Ever Fallen In Love?’ and ‘What Do I Get?’ These will be unveiled live in spectacular fashion at the JD Set gig.

We have teamed up with the guys at Jack Daniel's who are giving away a pair of tickets to attend the exclusive studio session taking place between April 26 -30 at a secret location, followed by the intimate JD Set gig at Band On The Wall on Thursday, May 27. The prize also includes a Jack Daniel’s goody bag for the prizewinner. Behind the scenes action from the studio sessions and gigs will be screened on Channel 4, NME TV and on thejdset.co.uk.

Mike Joyce said: “After watching Buzzcocks perform in Manchester, they’re the reason I picked up drum sticks in the first place. No Buzzcocks, there would be no Smiths, simple.” The JD Set will also be rocking London and Glasgow.

A fresh new line up will play at the JD Set London on May 5, which pays homage to the decade defining Human League and then at Glasgow on June 17 which is dedicated to the Material Girl herself Madonna.

For the past three years The JD Set has partnered members of musical royalty with hot new names from the underground in gigs up and down the UK. Stand out performances have come from Peter Hook and The Wombats, Hugh Cornwall and The Hours, Don Letts and Little Boots and David Gedge and the chart-topping Temper Trap.
