Emley 3 Morecambe 1 UNIBOND Premier Division side Emley dumped under par Morecambe out of the FA Trophy on Tuesday night. Two first half goals left Morecambe a mountain they couldn't climb and it's now Emley who go on to meet either Gateshead or Kidderminster in the second round. There were signs of things to come as early as the 12th minute when the excellent Paul David smacked a wicked shot against Andy Banks' post from more than 30 yards.

And it was the home side that took the lead in the 35th minute when David rose to head home an Ian Banks corner completely unchallenged.

Seven minutes later it was 2-0 and the Shrimps were looking defeat in the face, Charlie McClean doing the damage from close range after a free kick into the heart of the Morecambe penalty area.

Jim Harvey stirred his men into action in the second half and it was the man who epitomises the never-say-die attitude Jim McCluskie who pulled Morecambe back into the tie with a deadly finish after good work from Mark Ceraolo.

That proved to be one of the last real chances that the Shrimps - without the impish talents of both Ian Cain and Ian Monk - managed to create.

Harvey introduced himself into the fray after 60 minutes but even his presence couldn't stem the flow and Morecambe's fate was sealed six minutes later when that man David headed home after another good Banks corner. Morecambe 2 Emley 2 EMLEY earned themselves a replay in this FA Trophy first round tie at Christie Park on Saturday thanks to a goal five minutes from the final whistle.

After going a goal down in the 10th minute through a shot from former Man Utd man Deniol Graham, the Shrimps fought their way back into the game and had established a 2-1 lead by the 50th minute.

Morecambe's first goal, the equaliser, came from goal machine John Coleman who headed home a deep Paul Comstive cross in the 50th minute.

They took the lead 16 minutes later when Ian Cain produced a goal that should really have won the tie. He chipped the ball over the head of an Emley defender before hammering it home on the volley from what looked like an impossible angle.

With time running out the Shrimps were dreaming of the second round when Ian Banks tried his luck from the edge of the Morecambe area in the 85th minute. It paid off thanks to a wicked deflection and set up Tuesday's replay.
