TINY Elinor Susan Prescott is a proper Scouser - and her Lowton parents are as pleased as punch!

And Steven and Janet Prescott are overjoyed that she won't be "a pie eater with Wigan on her birth certificate!"

The Hollybush Square residents are this week celebrating the birth of their first child, born 10 weeks premature.

At birth dinky Elinor weighed just 1lb 14oz but is progressing well in an incubator at state-of-the-art Liverpool Women's Hospital.

"I didn't want her to be born in Billinge as she would have been burdened with a Wigan birth certificate," said draughtsman Steve, delighted that both mum and baby are doing fine.

"My wife chose Liverpool to give birth due to the hospital's expertise, the services provided and the brand new facilities. It's the centre of excellence in the north west.

"Considering the problems encountered it proved to be the right choice."

Originally complications meant little Elinor was due to be delivered by Caesarean section, but Steve was called back to his wife's bedside for a normal delivery.

"I was born in St Helens and my wife comes from the Pennington area and was born in the former Firs Maternity Home in Leigh. We both follow Leigh's RL fortunes and I also shout for Saints or anybody else who is playing against Wigan.

"Wigan is far too big and places like Lowton lose out. They say there's a building slump - but there isn't around here. We have plenty of houses but no amenities," he explained.

Steve and Janet have announced their daughter's birth in this week's Journal Family Announcements.
