EAT your hearts out Tarantino and Scorcese - a community group is about to make a film with your brand of realism.

Blackburn's Roman Road Association have been handed £1,000 to produce a video about young people on their estate.

And they promise it will give a positive outlook on everyday life.

The cash is a Community Fund grant, awarded to local groups in areas around Darwen, Roman Road, Bank Top and Shadsworth, under Blackburn Council's Regeneration Partnership scheme.

The idea of producing a video was devised between the Roman Road group and Action Factory Community Arts.

The youngsters involved will have a say in the whole process, from camera work to editing.

John Donnellon, Blackburn's Single Regeneration Budget manager, said: "The aim of this grant is to encourage local communities to feel more positive about where they live.

"It inspires young people to get involved and, hopefully, take pride in their work and environment.

"Roman Road has a reputation for being something of a problem area but the residents have shown a very encouraging attitude to this project.

"We have every reason to believe it will succeed."
