TEDDY bears are flocking to the Fylde en-route to Bosnia thanks to the work of a St Annes man.

Geoffrey Keyte, 48, has become the UK co-ordinator for To Bosnia With Love, a scheme to collect teddy bears to send to the war-torn country with the aim of spreading love and peace.

Geoffrey is asking people to collect bears and new or slightly new soft, stuffed animals in good and clean condition - and would like donors to tie a green ribbon to the toys they send to symbolise peace.

Groups can collect toys in clear plastic bags and write To Bosnia With Love on in large letters plus the number of bears and other animals which it contains.

Geoffrey, a crystal healer and author, has written to John Major asking for his support of the project which has already been given the blessing of US President Bill Clinton.

The St Annes man became involved with the scheme through his contacts on the Internet.

He said: "A man from Hawaii sent an E-mail message to me asking me to get involved with the scheme. I agreed to help out by co-ordinating the collection of bears in the UK. We are in the process of contacting airlines and organisations which are already sending relief supplies to Bosnia.

"We are looking for air transportation and a receiving distribution organisation in Bosnia if the peacekeepers cannot take on distribution to all the children.

"I hope Fylde folk will send me their teddy bears to help with the project."

All stuffed toys should be sent to Geoffrey Keyte, 37 Bromley Road, St Annes on Sea, FY8 1PQ.
