IAM delighted that Mr Tariq Ahmed (Letters, January 24) approves of our plans to decentralise some of the borough's key services to Darwen.

We are indeed very aware, and proud, that there are two major towns in the borough and these proposals form part of our plans to bring council services closer to local people.

As for the coat of arms, it is the Borough rather than the Blackburn crest, which is used on local authority merchandise.

However, readers in both Blackburn and Darwen will, I am sure, be pleased to know that from early summer, miniature models of Darwen Tower, like those presently being installed in the Darwen town centre environmental improvements, will be on sale from Blackburn and Darwen town halls and, hopefully, other outlets as well.

COUN MALCOLM DOHERTY, Leader of the Council.
