LIVE television stardom could beckon for Burnley's second team players next season, writes Tony Dewhurst.

I can reveal that London-based satellite channel - Live TV - have made an audacious £10,000 bid to screen 20 Pontins League fixtures next season.

The already infamous channel - fronted by former Sun Editor Kelvin McKenzie - hit the headlines last month with their controversial screening of Ladies Topless Darts from Bondi Beach in Australia.

Now they want to add the rough and tumble of the Pontins League to their 24-hour sport, news and entertainment scheduling.

If the deal gets the green light, matches from both the First and Second Division will be shown.

That includes both Blackburn and Burnley. A similar bid from Live TV was recently kicked out by the Home Counties equivalent of the Pontins League, the Avon Insurance Combination League.

Secretary of the League, Neville Chamberlain, said: "We had the offer but we did not negotiate it any further. It was peanuts."

The bid for the Pontins League TV rights will be discussed at the next meeting of the Pontins League Management Committee.

But, it appears, unless Live TV up their offer, their proposal could be rejected.

Football League spokesman, Chris Hull explained: "We are aware of the offer from Live TV and we think that the Pontins League has a lot of potential.

"Every week there are many big stars showcasing their talents for the likes of Manchester United, Everton and Liverpool.

"We have already seen an attendance in excess of 20,000 for Eric Cantona's comeback match at Old Trafford.

"The Football League believe the Pontins League offers a very attractive package to potential television bidders."
