BLACKBURN-based brewers Matthew Brown were bouncing back from the previous year's bruising battle against a takeover bid.

The company recorded a 24 per cent increase in pre-tax profits in the six months to the end of March. They went up £750,000 to £3.8 million. Company secretary Mr Colin Barber said: "The results are very good. Sales have been disappointing, but we have made a lot of progress in the area of cost control."
