IT does seem ironic that Blackburn Council's idea of redevelopment is to obliterate 1960s/1970s buildings (such as wholesale market and former Regent Hotel), but to leave the 1840s buildings on Church Street to go to rack and ruin through neglect until the only option will be to demolish them.

This part of Blackburn is one of the few remaining areas that was protected from the 1960's redevelopment by being on its periphery.

In view of the money being spent on the Boulevard and railway station, surely, public or private investment could be encouraged to maintain the last historic buildings in our town.

RON CRANE (Mr), Walden Road, Blackburn.
