THE future of Hyndburn Transport could be settled tonight at a crunch summit of councillors.

A special meeting of Hyndburn policy and resources committee is meeting behind closed doors to consider the contents of a consultants' report.

Possible options for the council-owned bus company include a sell-off or a partnership with another bus company.

Hyndburn Council chief executive Mike Chambers said: "The report highlights various courses of action.

"If there is a strong feeling one should be adopted it would open to the committee to make a decision," he added.

Mr Chambers said councillors are meeting in "closed session" because of the commericially sensitive information in the confidential report.

Consultants KPMG, who compiled the report on the financial state of the bus company, will be leading councillors through their 27-page study.

There is no recommendation from officers.

Mr Chambers said: "It is a decision for councillors and they must decide if they have sufficient information to make a decision.

"They may want to look at some further analysis.

"Whatever they want to do we will have to move quickly," added Mr Chambers.
