IWAS upset by the tone of the article 'Protest over mayor's flag,' (LET, May 23). I feel a certain amount of shame because of the attitude of the council tax payer of Willows Lane, Accrington.

It is not disgraceful to fly the flag of the mayor's country of origin. How can it be?

It can only be an act of courtesy. What chance do we have of friendly racial relationships if such an unpleasant point of view is thought to be laudable?

And in response Marion Raynor (Letters, May 24), to suggest that Hyndburn voters were in error when they elected a great majority of Labour councillors, belittles and denigrates the humble Hyndburn citizen.

Democracy is the name of the game and one should not squeal when the vote goes against you.

The potential Tory voters who sat on their backsides are the same voters who have been kicked up those backsides by the present non-Labour government; they are already reaping their just deserts.

COUN REG GOGGIN, Richmond Road, Accrington.
