THERE are not many people who can remember the last time Great Harwood won the Ribblesdale Cricket League.

But if there are any centenarians who support the Cliffe Park side, they would agree a title win is long overdue - 95 years to be exact!

Following last Sunday's farcical exit from the Lancs Gibson Cup at the hands of minnows White Coppice, Great Harwood could be forgiven for thinking this is not going to be their season - but not according to vice captain Dan Cheesbrough.

"That was an unbelievable game - one we will want to forget but it shouldn't affect our league performance which is definitely improving.

"We showed how well we can play against Settle with match winners like our pro Chris Killen and Paul Allen."

Great Harwood were another victim of the rain at White Coppice and ended up losing 2-1 on a free wicket shoot-out.

Against Settle, demon bowlers Killen and Allen tore the Yorkshiremen apart to help Great Harwood climb to sixth place in the league.

And Settle will not relish playing at Great Harwood in the second round of the Vaux Ramsbottom cup on Sunday - a game Dan Cheesbrough is sure of winning.

"We're really coming together now and I feel we can repeat last week's win over Settle on the back of an exciting win over Cherry Tree on Saturday.

"It's going to be a tight season, but we are back up there and I'm confident we can put the record straight and win a long overdue title."
