A TRIP to America proved to be just the trick for David Illidge, enabling him to turn a fascinating hobby into a successful career.

David had long had an interest in the world of magic, but it wasn't until his transatlantic holiday three years ago that he decided to make it his business.

Now he runs The American Magic Company, based in Doulton Street, St Helens, supplying amateur and professional magicians all over the world with quality magic tricks and illusions to use in their acts. He also produces a catalogue and regular newsletter for his customers.

David told the Star: "I have been interested in performing and learning magic for about eight years but after my visit to America I realised that the quality of items over there was far superior to ours."

Now, after a lot of hard work and determination, The American Magic Company is going from strength to strength and has recently begun wholesaling magic props to other shops in England, as well as establishing clientele in Belgium, Sweden, Finland and other European countries, plus orders from as far away as Thailand, Australia and New Zealand.

But David's proudest moment came when he received an order from TV's 'Mr Magic' himself - Paul Daniels. "After that I really felt I had made my mark in the world of retailing magical props."

DAVID is holding a Magician's Convention at the Saints club on Sunday, June 23, which will be attended by magic dealers from all over the country. If you are interested in magic and would like more details, you can contact David on St Helens 759653.
