A REGIMENT returning from Bosnia wants to exercise its freedom of the borough of Blackburn with a march through the town.

The 1st Battalion the Queen's Lancashire Regiment will return from peacekeeping duties in late August or early September and wants to march through Blackburn in the time-honoured manner with drums beating, colours flying and bayonets fixed.

The regiment's freedom, awarded in 1970, entitles it to march through the borough, the council's civic and external relations committee will be told tonight.

It has written to the council asking if the mayor, Coun Mary Leaver, will take the salute at a date to be arranged between October 1 and 10.
