IWONDER if any of your readers can be of assistance with a PhD I am gathering material for.
The subject matter is folklore, specifically the many legends of skulls kept in various halls, farms, and houses in Lancashire.
I have information about ten altogether, at Wardley, Mawdesley, Rufford, Turton (2), Chaigley, Browsholme, Affetside, Appley Bridge and Wrightington.
Many of these artefacts seem to be Catholic relics, hidden during the Reformation. Others may be older.
There are almost certainly ones which have not yet come to light. I am gathering a complete and comprehensive record of these skulls and would be grateful for any information whatsoever - newspaper, book and archive sources, photographs, personal knowledge and experience etc.
