BOSSES at holiday giant Airtours have acted to prevent delays for holidaymakers this summer.
The firm's in-house airline is to have a fully-crewed standby aircraft at Manchester Airport from next month.
The aim is to reduce delays caused by technical problems, air traffic control difficulties or bad weather.
"The standby aircraft represents a considerable financial commitment by the company and confirms our commitment to providing a quality service for our customers," said Mike Lee, chief executive of Airtours International.
"It gives us the flexibility to take the most appropriate action to deal with a problem anywhere in the world, something few other charter airlines can match."
Airtours International now has a fleet of 11 Airbus A320s, seven Boeing 757s and four wide bodies 767-300 aircraft. A new 767 is due for delivery at the end of this month and will be used for long haul flights to Florida and the Caribbean.
