A LANDLADY has teamed up with a local rambler to get her hostelry back on the map with walkers.

Enterprising Doreen Williams, "mine host" at the Buck Inn, Cowpe, near Waterfoot, Rossendale, has produced a brochure outlining a scenic walk that starts and ends at the pub's car park.

She enlisted the help of local rambler Jack Collins to prepare the route which Doreen estimates will take around two hours to complete.

The hope is that the pub, which was once a popular "refreshment stop" for walkers, will become a ramblers' rest once again.

"The aim is to get walkers back to the pub," said Doreen, who took over behind the bar last autumn.

"The walk will take around two hours and it goes round the tops above Cowpe. A lot of walkers used to come in here. The idea is to welcome people back to the Buck and give them the chance to enjoy an interesting walk as well as a warm welcome."

The brochure outlining the route is with the printer at the moment and Doreen hopes copies will be available in the next fortnight.

As well as having some at the pub she is also planning to distribute them to local tourism offices and other outlets to spread the word to walkers.
