DAREDEVIL Julie Egerton is getting ready to take a leap into the unknown in aid of a worthy cause.

For the 20-year-old, who is a social care student at St Helens College's Newton campus, is preparing to make a parachute jump to help raise money for local victims of crime.

Julie is also a trained volunteer for the St Helens East Victim Support Scheme and regularly helps out in the office, giving practical advice and emotional support to victims of crime.

Anne Slater, who co-ordinates the Victim Support scheme in Newton with Gwen Lightfoot, said: "Many young people are criticised for their selfish and anti-social behaviour, but Julie is an example of a young person who takes her responsibilities as a member of the community very seriously."

Julie already has a number of backers, but anyone else who would like to sponsor her parachute jump can contact (01925) 220411, or call in at the Victim Support Scheme office in Newton-le-Willows Library, Crow Lane East.
