FANCY a spot of dragon boat racing, all in a good cause?

Supporters of the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust in Burnley are challenging all-comers to join them in the fun when they take to Sale Water Park on July 20.

Fund raising manager Steve Joyce said: "We're hoping lots more teams from workplaces, pubs and clubs will come forward for what is an tremendously fun event."

The Burnley group was formed three years ago when toddler Christopher Gratrix developed leukaemia and his family set the ball rolling by organising a series of money-making events.

Sadly, little Christopher died two years ago, but his parents carried on raising funds so that other children can be helped.

Mr Joyce added: "We have lots of wonderful people wanting to join the bone marrow register: any one of them could be a life-saving tissue match, but we simply don't have the money to do the blood tests and find out if they match a patient's bone marrow type."
