STRONG links forged between local air force organisations will be reforged next week.
Wings Week begins on Saturday when collectors, mainly ATC cadets, will be seeking contributions for the Royal Air Force Association's annual appeal.
The following day the RAFA's Leigh branch celebrates its 50th anniversary with a ceremony in the Royal British Legion Club in Windermere Road and will re-adopt the Leigh Squadron of the ATC.
RAFA Leigh branch secretary Cecil Fazakerley explained:"The RAFA is one of the leading British service charities providing support to serving and retired RAF personnel.
"It has three convalescent homes plus sheltered housing schemes and each branch has a trained welfare officer able to give practical help and advice to members.
"Demand on the Leigh branch resources steadily increase each year as the membership ages, hence the need for all the financial support we can get."
Sunday's 50th anniversary ceremony will see the Leigh branch presented with a gold tassel to add to its standard and the new standard will be re-dedicated.
