IF sales of large display fireworks are banned, public firework displays will be in jeopardy. Organisers will be forced to use punier fireworks that audiences may not be able to see properly because they don't shoot high enough. People will vote with their feet and let off their own fireworks instead.
The regulations will ensure that displays fired by non-trained operators will be a thing of the past.
Many people buy larger display fireworks over the counter for November 5 firework parties as they are much better value for money than garden ones.
They burn longer; the effects are much more exciting and spectacular. That's why the public buys them.
It should not be up to the Government to restrict these to professionals only.
They should still be sold to the public and display organisers.
These size and weight restrictions on retail display fireworks for the public and displays are highly stupid and unnecessary.
