LEE CRYER has put Leigh RMI on the road to Wembley. He took just seven minutes to score his first senior goal for his new club to earn them a place in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.

The former Atherton LR striker, signed in the summer, was given his first start of the season against Accrington Stanley.

And when Dave Riding slotted the ball through the defence for him, the blonde goal poacher made no mistake, cooly finishing in style.

Manager Steve Waywell was delighted with Cryer's goal: "It was a good strike and a superb finish," he said. "We were brilliant in defence, got bodies behind the ball and we could have grabbed another goal."

ATHERTON LR had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Vauxhall - despite a flying start.

In-form Graham Leishman blasted home the first goal after just 45 seconds and later he again found the net to restore the home lead. That took his tally to five goals in six games.

PENNINGTON were disappointing as they fell 3-1 to Gamesley, Mike Lewis the scorer. The U18s drew 0-0 with Deans, Scott Pilling MoM.

LEIGH ATHLETIC fell 4-3 at Old Boltonians after conceding two quickfire early goals.

Rob Lysons and Neil Sumner pulled Athletic back into contention but the home side stormed clear before Danny Wilson was up-ended in full flight and Gordon Walker slotted in the penalty.
