A COWARDLY thief snatched an 83-year-old woman's handbag as she was on her way for a night out at bingo. The victim and her husband were walking along Shaw Street at about 6.45pm on Wednesday, September 10 when a tall, thin, young man wearing dark clothing, approached the pensioner from behind and snatched the bag containing a purse and £80 in cash. He then ran off along Tolver Street.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact DC Debbie Scott at St Helens police station on 0151 777 6050.
