TIME'S UP for rowdy town centre boozers.
And police are now looking to re-enlist the help of pub landlords in a bid to stamp-out late-night, anti-social behaviour.
Leigh's top police officers are anxious not to be seen as 'kill-joys'. But Ch Insp Steve Westcott said the on-street behaviour of some people was spoiling it for other fun-lovers.
Leigh is a popular haunt on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights and will now receive extra, high-level from police patrols.
"There is a concentration at weekends of people coming out pubs in the late evening and being in a drunken state, particularly in the King Street / Turnpike junction area.
"They make it difficult and intimidating for other people on the pavements and motorists trying to drive through the town centre. We will be looking at providing measures of reassurance" said Mr Westcott.
Police are also hoping to revitalise the town centre Pubwatch scheme by visiting local landlords.
