AN Atherton taxi firm is offering a £200 reward to anyone who can tell them the whereabouts of a specially adapted minibus which is used to take disabled children to school.

The white, eight seater minibus, reg no E347 GRE, was stolen from a street close to Tyldesley Police Station on Friday afternoon.

Now the firm, J & K Taxis in Meahouse lane, has had to hire another vehicle to carry out its contract to take autistic children to Mere Oaks Special School in Standish.

Partner Geoff Cunliffe said: "The minibus was seen at 1pm on Friday afternoon but it had disappeared by 1.30pm. We have a contract to take these children in the minibus which is specially adapted with restraints, and we have had to hire another one to carry out the contract.

"I hope whoever took the minibus has a conscience and realises how much this is costing us and how it can affect the children in the long term."

Anyone with information should ring J & K Taxis on 01942 895546.
