GIANT defender Lee Howey is a big doubt for tomorrow's long distance haul to Plymouth Argyle.

Howey was off the field for 13 minutes of the first half following a nasty clash of heads with Wrexham's Karl Connolly during the hard fought 0-0 draw at the Racecourse.

Howey eventually returned to the fray following stitches in a nose wound, but was later substituted with the injury causing further concern.

Player-manager Chris Waddle said: "We will make a decision on Lee but it is not as bad as first appeared.

"Obviously it is very sore because the injury is on the bridge of the nose. It is a big gash but he wasn't good looking anyway! He looked like a centurion getting on the coach.

"But Steve is a tough and competitive lad and I wouldn't be surprised to see him wearing the number five shirt at Plymouth."

Waddle - who saw Burnley pick up their first league point away from Turf Moor since last March - praised Burnley's battling performance.

He added: "We didn't play too well but I was very pleased with the attitude of the players. "Everybody stood up to be counted and we've a few cuts and bruises to show for our efforts.

"Mentally we were very strong and kept Wrexham at bay with a disciplined performance.

"For the last few games we've really passed the ball well and got the fans on the edge of their seats, but we didn't do that against Wrexham much.

"It was extremely hot and the weather was freakish for the time of year. It reminded me of the opening day at Watford. The main thing is that we didn't lose the game. We are creating good habits now.

"Now let's hope we can go to Plymouth tomorrow and get another good result to take us off the bottom of the Second Division."
