TWO young brothers who suffered serious neck wounds in an incident at their home are out of danger, it was announced today.

Police said the condition of six-year-old Daniel Schofield and his four-year-old brother Adam, had improved considerably at Pendlebury Children's Hospital, Manchester.

The boys were involved in an incident at their home in Lodge Street, Accrington, on Friday morning.

Daniel has a severed windpipe but it is too early to say whether the injury will affect his speech.

Their mother, Anita Pettifer, 27, has been at the hospital with her sons, supported by other relatives from Hyndburn.

The hospital is not disclosing any information about the condition of the children at the request of their family.

Their father, Stephen Schofield, 32, of Lodge Street, has appeared before Blackburn magistrates charged with their attempted murder.

He was remanded in custody until Friday, October 24, when he will appear before magistrates in Hyndburn.
