THERE can be very few residents of Darwen or Blackburn who welcome the idea of wind turbines on the moors above Darwen.
While the world has no choice but to develop alternative sources of energy to finite fossil fuels, it is quite obvious that some sites will be more appropriate than others for the siting of wind farms.
It will make no sense developing alternative non-polluting sources of power, while at the same time damaging fragile ecosystems (the site for the proposed wind turbines is a site of biological importance).
I must seriously question Blackburn Council's assertion that it has no choice but to sit back and wait for the submission of a planning application.
On page 54 of the council's own Draft Local Plan, under the section dealing specifically with wind turbines, paragraph 3.49 states quite specifically that "developers will be required to carry out full consultation with the council and the local community prior to submitting a planning application."
