BURNLEY'S scheduled red rose showdown with Blackpool at Turf Moor tonight has been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Heavy rain overnight and again this morning left standing water on the pitch and made it totally unplayable. The decision to call the game off was a formality for local referee Mike Ryan when he inspected at 10.30am today. The fixture will now have to be rescheduled for later in the season and add to an already busy programme. The Clarets face Grimsby Town over two legs of the Auto Windscreens Shield northern area final on the next two Tuesday nights. And the re-arranged League game at Oldham has been fixed for Tuesday, April 7. Manager Chris Waddle admitted the situation was not ideal and will be keeping his fingers crossed that his side are not left at the bottom of the table as the result of other games tonight. On the plus side, however, it gives Waddle, Damian Matthew and Lee Howey the chance to get fit for Saturday's game at Walsall.
