RIGHT now, have-a-go teenager Anna McNeela will be on her hands and knees exploring ancient ruins and tombs in the jungle in Belize.
Anna, of Fulwood is currently on the trip of a lifetime, living for 12 weeks in South America.
The 18-year-old is one of 100 young people to get a place on the Raleigh International trip.
They will have three months to study ancient areas and do their bit to try to improve the standards of living in Belize.
She will help to build a schoolroom at an education centre for disadvantaged children and also a bridge to help animals cross the jungle. Anna, of Highrigg Drive, told the Citizen before she flew out how much she was looking forward to it: "I am really excited about the expedition. I am a little scared about saying goodbye and being away for so long but it will be a fantastic trip.
"It is a great opportunity for me to make new friends and improve life skills such as team work and communication."
Anna is relishing the challenge of working towards a deadline but is particularly looking forward to enjoying her favourite sport.
She said: "I really love diving and I can't wait to get over there and a get a chance to swim in that lovely clear water - it will be like a dream."
Jo Eades, Raleigh's expedition leader in Belize, said: "Anna will have to face one of her hardest challenge of her life to make sure all the projects are completed on time. It will be a hugely rewarding experience."
