LEIGH RMI can't claw their way out of a dismal run. It got no better at Guiseley on Saturday when they stumbled 2-1 - their second loss to the Yorkshire side in four days.

This Saturday RMI are Guiseley are again matched, this time in the reverse league fixture at Hilton Park.

And the Leigh side will have to dig deep as they bid to end the nightmare of recent weeks which has seen them win only three of their last 12 games as a season of high hopes has plunged towards zero.

RMI, looking for instant revenge after their 3-0 Presidents Cup defeat, took the lead after only 10 minutes. A corner was cleared to Martin James who drove it past Nigel Muttick for his second goal of the season.

Guiseley then took control but didn't draw level until two minutes before the break. Former Leeds United full-back Neil Parsley drilled a free kick low across goal into the far corner.

Within two minutes of the restart, Guiseley were ahead. RMI keeper Dave Felgate attempted a quick throw out; it struck Lee Elam who capitalised by steering the ball into the empty net.

Felgate can't wait to see the back of Guiseley: his blunder last Tuesday cost Leigh their second goal.

Incredibly, RMI played Guiseley off the park - with no reward - in the first 25 minutes of their second round replay.

Dave Ridings twice went close and Eric Rostron had strong claims for a penalty turned down.

But, once Guiseley got a grip, they made RMI pay for their missed chances and for later blunders.

Guiseley's new boss Bobby Davison is, however, taking nothing for granted this weekend. "We have won two out of two and will be hoping to make it three," he said.

"But I don't think there is much between the two sides.

"We were looking over our shoulder all through the second half on Saturday and they put us under pressure - especially at set pieces."
