THE big guns will be firing from the hip on Showdown Saturday.

There will no room for the faint-hearted in the Leigh & District Amateur Football League with BIG matches in both divisions.

Higher Fold Village Inn are going for the Division One title as they face up to their major rivals, second-placed Leigh Eagles.

If Higher Fold win the championship belongs to them; if Eagles win or grab a point the race goes on.

In Division Two it's equally as exciting with only four points separating the first seven teams.

Top on goal difference are Leigh Victoria. And on Saturday they face second-placed Union Arms.

It just could not be better!

Meanwhile, in last weekend's cup action, Clinton Andrews enjoyed his right royal romp.

He hit a terrific treble as Leigh Eagles soared into the final four of the Redwaters Coronation Cup with a 5-0 firing of Lion Inn.

Also on target were Mark Toothill and Paul Berry.

Also into the semi-finals are Royal Oak, 3-1 winners against Atherton C&N with goals from Steve Parry 2 and Dave Calland; Mark Smith replied for C&N.

In the Carl Brown Memorial Trophy Higher Fold Village Inn were 4-2 winners at Rileys, who battled well and were always in with a chance.

Simon Delvard and Andy Whittle hit the mark for Rileys, Kevin Harris, Geoff Myers and Michael Blackley 2 for the visitors.

Queens romped home 5-1 at Atherton Tigers. Steven Hall got the one, Lee Ridings 2, Lee Jones 2 and Liam Connelly got the five.

Church Inn and Leigh Phoenix A played out a 2-2 draw, Wayne Woods and Jamie Munroe for Church, Wayne Pitchford and Neil Thompson for Phoenix.

In Division Two Leigh Victoria go top after a 2-0 win at Ross's Wanderers, both goals from Steve Hibbert.

Corbett Brewery won 3-2 at Sir Charles Napier, Jason Caldwell, Shane Brennan and Andy Hardman for the winners, Mark Thompson and MoM Mick Evans for Napier.

Butchers Arms went ahead through Wayne Thompson but had to settle for a 1-1 draw after Jess Thornley levelled the scores 10 minutes from time for Hag Fold WMC.

Also sharing the points were New Inn Rangers and Ellesmere, no goals to trouble the scorers.

At the wrong end of the table Leigh Phoenix B are definitely rising from the ashes after a win against Leigh Arms.

They romped in 7-3 - their highest-ever score - with next-to-bottom Arms scoring through Gareth Crook 2 and Gary Laverty while Chris Prescott 3, Scott Mulcrow 2 and David Keen 2 scored the magnificent seven.
