A DOCTORS' practice manager has been charged with the theft of £6,998 from East Lancashire Health Authority.

Susan Jobes, 45, of Masterson Avenue, Read, a manager with a fund holding practice in Darwen, appeared before Blackburn magistrateson five counts of theft on dates between January and December 1997.

She was originally charged with three offences but two further counts of theft were added by the Crown Prosecution Service during yesterday's hearing.

The charges range from the alleged theft of £2,122.69 on March 27, 1997, to the theft of £151.58 on December 8 the same year.

She entered no plea but magistrates ruled the cases should be heard at Crown Court and bailed her to appear for committal proceedings on September 13.

A spokesman at East Lancashire Health Authority confirmed officials were aware of the case but declined comment to comment further.
