TWO holidaymakers said they would rather have stayed at home after claiming they spent two weeks in a flea-infested hotel in Benidorm.

John Westwell, 23, and David Keryk, 20, spent £290 each on a Club 18-30 package holiday, but are now demanding a full refund.

David, of Bolton Road, Blackburn, said: "You would expect at least to be safe and comfortable in your room."

"You couldn't even sit on the beds without scratching yourself. There were so many fleas."

They claimed they found bare electric wires in the bedroom, rusty nails in the shower and broken beds in the one-star Hotel Easo, advertised in the brochure as "comfy as your fave pair of slippers."

The men claimed the pool was drained for several days because furniture was thrown in it.

"We went to breakfast once and never went again," said David. "Toast and crackers were kept in a lunch box behind the bar. We didn't eat them and they put them straight back into the lunch box for someone else to have."

John, of Brookway, Blackburn, and David have sent a letter of complaint to the tour operators asking for compensation.

A spokesman for Club 18-30 said the company had one of the industry's lowest complaint levels.

"We take all complaints seriously and will thoroughly investigate their grievances," he said.

He said it may be two months before it was decided if the company would offer compensation.
